Complementary Therapy Program
Fernlea House recognizes that the diagnosis of a life limiting illness affects not only the person in a physical sense but also emotionally, socially and spiritually. Family and carer(s) are also affected. Our Complementary Therapy Program aims to provide support to you and your family / carer. Professional therapists in massage, reiki and reflexology are able to visit you at home or at the day care centre to provide treatment.
Loss, Grief and Bereavement Program
A professional counsellor is available to provide support and assistance to clients and/or their families of Fernlea House. Counselling is a confidential discussion between client and the counsellor and includes both education and support. Not everyone wants or needs grief counselling, however it is available for you if needed.
Memoirs Program
The Memoirs Program provides a means for a person to record their story, which they are able to keep and pass on to their families and friends. With the assistance of a trained volunteer, a person is able to record a history of their life and record their memories. It provides a time for reflection, and is an enjoyable activity to focus on during what is often a difficult time.
The Memoirs Program is based on the successful Client Biography Service, founded in 1990 by Dr. Ivan Lichter, former head of Te Omanga Hospice in New Zealand.
